About the South Shore Furniture

South Shore Industries LTD

A recognized leader in North American furniture manufacture, South Shore Industries was established in 1940 and has been making furniture for three generations. Employing a team of over 1000 employees in three factories in Quebec, our assembled and ready-to-assemble furniture has a reputation for quality and excellence at affordable prices for today's family.

In 1940 Eugène Laflamme established South Shore Industries by buying a bankrupt wooden toy manufacturing business previously owned by Pierre and Jean de Ste-Croix-de-Lotbinière. Understanding the seasonal nature of the toy business, South Shore diversified production to include kitchen tables and chairs. The factory was rebuilt on the original site in 1941 and again in 1951 after it was damaged by fire. When the wooden furniture market suffered with the appearance of Chrome furniture in 1952, South Shore expanded its product range to include bedroom furnishings.

In 1970 Guy Laflamme succeeded his father as managing director and expanded the existing production at the Ste-Croix factory by incorporating Morrissette et frères. In 1978 South Shore was joined by J.W. Kilgour Ltd. of Coaticook. Over the years all 3 factories have undergone several phases of investment and expansion to make South Shore Industries Ltd. what it is today.

Jean Laflamme joined the company in 1986 and Guy Laflamme designated him President in 1999 while maintaining the position of President of the Board of Directors. Jean Laflamme represents the third generation at the head of South Shore Industries Ltd.

South Shore Furniture introduces its innovative Smart Glide technology as well as 56 new items at the High Point Home Furnishings Market

Sainte-Croix, QC, Canada, April 20, 2006 – After months of research and development efforts, South Shore Furniture will introduce its Smart Glide technology at the spring High Point Home Furnishings Market in North Carolina. In addition to this unique drawer glide system, South Shore Furniture will also launch 56 new and exciting furniture items, reflecting the company’s dedication to exceeding customer expectations in terms of style and innovation.

Innovative system
The Smart Glide feature is made from a unique combination of polymer for exceptionally smooth sliding, and offers elements such as: a soft-closing rubber mechanism as well as a child-friendly safety catch. “The Smart Glide feature is the result of many months of development efforts to offer customers one of the best drawer glides on the market,” says Jean Laflamme, President and Chief Executive Officer of South Shore Furniture, reaffirming the company’s commitment to superior customer service. The new Smart Glide feature will be marketed under the tagline Smart Glide… A Smart Choice!, consistent with the new company tagline South Shore Furniture: A Smart Choice!

New Items
At this spring’s exhibition South Shore Furniture will also launch 56 new items from its juvenile, adult, and entertainment center categories, in keeping with the current styles for which the company is known. The items will be offered under the South Shore Furniture trademark which was introduced at last fall’s High Point Home Furnishings Market along with a new logo and tagline. South Shore Inds. adopts new logo
Furniture Today 22-10-05

AT THE MARKET – South Shore Inds. has adopted a new logo in warm tones of red and yellow and a new tagline to enhance its identity in the Canadian and American markets.
The company is now marketing its furniture as South Shore Furniture, with the tagline: “A Smart Choice!”

The new visual identity stems from in-depth research the company conducted this year to get a better understanding of its customers, consumers and the industry. As a result of this research, South Shore “hopes to gain a sharper competitive edge and develop new products adapted to the needs of our consumers,” said Jean Laflamme, president and CEO.

“We decided on this tagline because it represents the very essence of our brand,” said Laflamme. “It tells consumers they made a wise decision by choosing a product that combines affordabitlity with excellent quality and style.”

Here at market, South Shore is launching 100 new products under the South Shore Furniture label, including assembled and ready-to-assemble adult and youth bedroom and entertainment furniture.

Based in Sainte-Croix, Quebec, South Shore is celebrating its 65th anniversary this year. In the past two years, the company has invested more than C$20 million in modernizing its factories to improve competitiveness.

South Shore Industries: A Smart Choice!

The company strengthens its positioning by launching the South Shore Furniture brand, and introducing 100 new products at the High Point Home Furnishings Market

Sainte-Croix, October 19, 2005 – In order to reinforce its leadership in the Canadian furniture market and accelerate its penetration on the American marketplace, South Shore Industries is adopting a clearer positioning and a new visual identity. In addition to a new logo and tagline, South Shore Industries will now market its furniture under the name South Shore Furniture, which will continue to reflect the high standards the company has maintained for over 65 years.

A new visual identity This new visual identity stems from in-depth research the company has conducted in 2005 to get a better understanding of its customers, consumers and today’s furniture industry. “South Shore Industries hopes to gain a sharper competitive edge, and develop new products adapted to the needs of our consumers,” stated Mr. Jean Laflamme, President and Chief Executive Officer of South Shore Industries.

As part of the High Point Home Furnishings Market exhibition in North Carolina, the company is launching 100 new products under the South Shore Furniture trademark, which will feature adult and children bedroom furnishings as well as entertainment center furniture in keeping with the latest styles for which the company is known.

A distinctive tagline In addition to introducing the new trademark, South Shore’s new image boasts a new tagline on which the entire positioning is based: A Smart Choice. “We decided on this unique tagline because it represents the very essence of our brand,” added Laflamme. “It tells consumers they made a wise decision by choosing a product that combines affordability with excellent quality and style.” In an industry where competition is fierce and the existence of many North American companies is threatened by strong rivalry from China, and other countries, South Shore Industries has decided to invest locally to secure its future and provide better service to its North American clientele.

A logo that reflects the product Along with this positioning, South Shore is also unveiling a new logo that reflects the product’s friendly personality with warm tones of red and yellow. The logo, combined with the new trademark, will help the company be more accessible to its target audience by giving the product increased visibility and making it easier for consumers to identify the brand.
