Powell Company Announces New PowellKids®
Collections of Youth Furniture, Extends Lines for Toddlers Through Teens
High Point, North Carolina – (October 16, 2006) - At the October
High Point Market The Powell Company is spotlighting their Powell Kids®
collections of furniture for children. The new collections include "Max",
a construction theme design group by interior and furniture designer Michael
Payne and “Vista”, a contemporary steel and cherry laminate
group. Both groups are perfect for the rough and tumble set.
Two featured Powell Kids® groups, the Sunday Funnies Collection and
the Z-Bedroom
Collection are finalists for an industry Pinnacle Design Award.
“Max” the new group by Michael Payne is fun, functional,
stylish and truly built for rugged use. The design is "structural"
including construction forms such as nuts and bolts, girders and planes
--- all of heavy duty steel finished with a powder coat of bright red,
blue, steel grey and yellow. “Max ” is a large group with
20 coordinating pieces, enough choices to allow consumers to choose a
few for a small bedroom or more for a larger room. The total impact of
the group is clean, crisp and colorful yet at the same time quite traditional
because of its simplicity.
Michael says of the collection, “Each piece has interchangeable
colored slats that only a young child can dream of and rearrange in any
color combination among the individual pieces.”
Another new Powell collection is the "Vista" series. This collection
is clean, simple, and contemporary - perfect for tweens and teens for
now and on to college. The modern design is the perfect foil for the collections
of stuff and clutter so dear to the hearts of youngsters - posters, programs,
pictures, stuffed animals, yesterday’s laundry, etc. The furniture
is of sturdy steel with warm cherry laminate tops finished with a powder
coat of Denim Blue.
Two of the Powell Youth
Furniture Collections have been named finalists for the prestigious
Pinnacle Award .They are the 14 piece "Sunday Funnies" collection
and the "Z
Bedroom".
The “Sunday Funnies" youth collection is designed in cheery
colors from Mama Nature's gardens. Each piece is a combination of Honeysuckle
Green, Dandelion Yellow, Tulip Pink and Bluebell Blue. For all its fantasy,
this is not baby
furniture. The group has been designed to incorporate innovative and
whimsical shapes in classical forms. Kids and Mom's alike love furniture
scaled to a child's size with "cubbies" for storage, clothes
pegs they can reach, drawers for" treasures", bookcases and
more. All of the drawers and pulls are quite large and some pieces are
finished with bun feet.
Says Tom Liddell, Senior Vice President – National Sales for Powell,
“This group is fun, stylish, sturdy and affordable. The kids that
have seen it love it!”
"Also”, Tom added, "all of the Powell
Kids furniture collections have been designed for ease of assembly
and are easy care."
The “Z-Bedroom” is very NOW - 21st century modern with a
sleek black textured powder coating on steel with aluminum and brushed
chrome trim, pulls and detailing. The design features a unique, floating
"Z" - a design component that is both a structural and a design
element with the result being a masterpiece of form, style and function.
"This is a group that is likely to appeal to the teen/ college set
- it is really cool” says John Conrad, Vice President Merchandising
for Powell.
“We have had a lot of fun with the Youth Furniture category and
our PowellKidscollections and are very proud to be a finalist for the
Pinnacle Awards."
